FORM: BASS RUNNER CAN GIVE PUNTERS AN EARLY WINNER ON THE DURBANVILLE CARD
Muzi Yeni here is no racing on the Highveld this weekend with the main meetings taking place at Hollywoodbets Durbanville tomorrow and Hollywoodbets Scottsville on Sunday.
I will be riding at Durbanville tomorrow so that is the meeting which we will analyse for this column, and hopefully I can point our followers in the right direction.
I have eight rides on the nine-race card and I'll be hoping to get into the winners' circle on the day.
Race 1 is a Maiden Plate over 1000m and there are a number of well-bred unraced horses so it is important to watch the betting and canter past for the best guide to the chances.
I ride One Cape who ran way down field on debut but it looks like he had excuses, and he now returns as a gelding. Obviously, I'll be hoping that brings about marked improvement, which we will need in order to feature even though this is not the strongest field.
Lyrical Gangster sets the standard on form and it looks like he is still progressing, so he is probably the one we have to beat.
In my opinion, this is a wide-open race and the betting is likely to be your best guide.
Race 2 is a Maiden Plate over 1250m and once again it is important to watch the betting and canter past for the best guide to the chances of the unraced runners.
I ride Frequent Traveller who is one of those nicely bred unraced horses and I'll be going for a positive run.
Of the raced runners Astronomical Boy will take all the beating after a lovely latest effort. On that performance I make him extremely hard to beat and he is my best bet on the card and a banker in all bets.
In Motion ran a nice race in his latest start and on that run, he rates the main danger to my selection although I do believe he will need to improve even further to win.

Could Maharaj's Test spot be in danger?
It feels silly to even suggest this, but based on the performances of the country's strong spin bowling contingent, Keshav Maharaj's place in the national Test team might be in danger.
