A foray into modern-day superheroes

Long gone are the days when a superhero could simply don a mask and cap, save the day and escape to a secret lair.

For Abigail Turner, a frustrated, corporate-owned superhero in the city of San Arbor, it's about navigating politics, satiating story-hungry reporters and boosting her media popularity.

“If superheroes did exist in America, of course they'd have sponsorships, and of course there'd be popularity polls, and of course all of their stuff would be tracked on social media, and I really wanted to explore that,” said author Jordan S Keller.

Keller gives fans of The Boys a PG-friendly batch of corporate-owned superheroes to root for in Wildfire: The Rise of a Hero, an action-packed enemies-to-lovers story with an emotional complexity not found in most superhero-centric tales.
