Watson wants FA Trophy to prove a springboard to success for Shields

IAN Watson has urged South Shields to use a potential FA Trophy run to boost their bid for success this season.
The Mariners have enjoyed an impressive first four months under the former MK Dons and Carlisle United assistant manager as he has taken them into contention for the National League North title and earned a place in the FA Cup first round before their run was halted by a home defeat against Shrewsbury Town.
A run of just one win in their last five games has halted some of their momentum - but Watson is keen to gather some pace as his side host Dunston UTS in a second round tie tomorrow afternoon.
