WHAT WE LEARNED FROM VICTORY AT BURNLEY

- By STUART JAMIESON

One down in a run of four winnable games...

Bruno Guimaraes added a third goal in injury time at Turf Moor

WELL, that was a roller-coaster. A match Newcastle United should have had wrapped up well before halftime turned into something of a nail-biter before Bruno Guimaraes sealed three points.

Tuesday night’s 3-1 success at Burnley was a hugely important one for Eddie Howe and Co, and should now set them on the path to a stronger second half of the season.

A blistering start, when goals from Joelinton and Yoane Wissa put the visitors two goals ahead after just seven minutes, was almost undone when Josh Laurent pulled one back for Burnley before the break.

That set up a tough second period, which saw the Clarets pressure Nick Pope in the visiting goal. However, a mix-up at the back between former United keeper Martin Dubvavka and defender Hjalmar Ekdal, allowed Bruno the chance to seal the win with an superbly taken effort. Here are five things we learned:

It won't be straightforward, but Newcastle will know they have four must-win Premier League games in a row, and it started with Burnley. With Crystal Palace and Leeds United at St James’ Park next week, and Wolves away in mid-January, United simply have to get a double-point return from those games.
