New push to try to halt plan for 24-hour casino

COUNCILLOR WANTS LEGAL ACTION TO BE CONSIDERED
A TORY councillor has called on the North Tyneside Mayor to consider legal action against a decision to allow a 24-hour slots casino in Preston Grange, North Shields.
The council had initially rejected planning permission for the scheme earlier this year but after an appeal, it was approved by an outside body.
The planning inspectorate’s decision to allow an initially refused application for an Admiral Casino casino venue in empty units on the site of the Collingwood Centre continues to stir up controversy.
The plans were heard by North Tyneside Council's planning committee in March and rejected on public health and public safety grounds as well as a supposed overabundance of gambling establishments in the area.
