NEW STRIKERS BRING HOPE FOR CLUB

- By OWEN YOUNGER

IN many ways, Newcastle United fans will be pleased to see the back of the summer transfer window. The drama surrounding Alexander Isak has dominated the headlines, with the Swedish international finally sealing his £130m transfer to Liverpool on deadline day.

Further reasons to be positive for United supporters are the recent signing of the 6ft 6ins forward Nick Woltemade and the acquisition of Brentford striker Yoane Wissa.

To gauge exactly how fans are feeling with the window slamming shut at 7pm on Monday, we went up to St James’ Park to speak to people outside the stadium and club shop to get their thoughts on a tumultuous period for the club.

Fred Johnson, 79, and his grandson, Matthew Johnson, 15, were just leaving the official store, when they stopped for a chat, with Fred saying: "You've got to have faith in the man ager, as we have a better squad now and more depth for the Champions League.
