- By BARBARA HODGSON

Howay, lads and lasses, the 5k clock is ticking...

Steve Cram says there will be plenty of local athletic talent to cheer on, as well as the elite competitors

WITH the countdown on for the moment the first ever HogmanHOWAY 5K gets under way in Newcastle, organisers have announced details of the elite races - and there's a reminder that members of the public still have time to sign up for the run.

The debut event - the brainchild of Olympic silver medallist Steve Cram - will be on the start line in the city centre just after 7pm on New Year's Eve, with the professionals leading the way then the mass run following at 7.30pm.

And people can still enter online before entries for it close today, Tuesday, December 30, with around 2,000 runners in total expected to cover the three-lap route.
