Holiday lets plan for buidling space above restaurant

A developer is hoping to convert space above the acclaimed House of Tides into three short-term let apartments. Plans lodged with Newcastle City Council could see the second, third, and fourth floors of the historic 16th century building, which is home to the top Tyneside eatery, transformed.

Proposals from Darlington-based Rico Homes Limited state that the original intention had been to use the upper storeys of the grade I listed former merchant's house, on Close, as offices.

But, while House of Tides opened on the ground and first floors in 2014, efforts to let the upstairs floors as office space have been unsuccessful.
