FOR 20 years, this Newcastle building was one of the prime hotspots of the city's booming after-dark social scene.

Foundation really was the place to be for the region's clubbers

Located on Melbourne Street, in the summer of 1985 the one-time bonded warehouse and most recently a print works became home to the much-loved Riverside music venue.

Over the next decade and a half, as well as countless aspiring local bands, big names who performed there included David Bowie, Oasis, Nirvana, Elvis Costello, The Smiths, Red Hot Chili Peppers among many others.
