NEWCASTLE

- By JEFF KING

Eagles head to Leicester Riders on Saturday in confident mood as they seek a fifth successive league victory. The Eagles made it four wins from four in the WSLB Championship last Saturday night in the Vertu Arena to remain top of the standings and maintain their 100% record.

But it was not easy as Cardiff Met Archers pushed them all the way before Newcastle sealed a 66-62 victory.

One of the catalysts was the standout performance of ex-Durham Palatinate guard Shanique Lucas, who had her best game so far in an Eagles vest.

Lucas had 20 points, eight rebounds, six assists and six steals to guide her side to the win - but admitted it had been a tough night.

“They surprised us 1000%. We definitely had our work cut out for ourselves,” she said.

No escaping your fitter enemy

EVERY new show needs a great opening. Something to forcefully grab the viewer's attention and maintain that vice-like grip for the next hour or so. The producers of Handcuffed: Last Pair Standing must have been rubbing their hands with glee when they saw the rough cut of this first episode: a glimpse of the countryside, a nice burst of birdsong, sounds of a man and a woman laughing and then... two people naked in a shower. Goodness me, and it's only just past the watershed too.
