Bridge Day was a great success

HI Sunshine News Readers, It's been a week since we debuted our Tyne Bridge Day and we're pleased to say it was a success. We started with a morning of networking over breakfast (and cake!) at Pitcher & Piano on the Quayside, where we presented a video on the construction of the Tyne Bridge, which was kindly provided by the Yorkshire and North East Film Archive.

Our Head of Charity, David Wilson, introduced the event and gave some background and trivia about the Tyne Bridge and what it means to our region on its 97th anniversary.

The morning was sponsored by our friends at Progressive Legal Solutions.

At noon, we took a group out to learn more about the tales, truths and time line of the Tyne Bridge. We learnt about its construction, some of the lesser known facts and busted some myths.

We finished the tour at Esh Group, where after hearing about the bridge's past, we could learn more about its future and the restoration works.

All in all, it was a successful day and we look forward to bringing it back next year, bigger and better.

This day was special for The Sunshine Fund as our origins go all the way back to the official opening of the Tyne Bridge; King George V recognised the deprivation and donated £15 (£800 today) to facilitate a trip to take disadvantaged kids to the seaside.
