Ambitious sailing team trains at offshore centre

AN all-female marine crew is making history on Tyneside.

The Famous Project CIC, founded by French sailor Alexia Barrier, is entering the final stages of preparation to attempt one of the greatest challenges in sailing, the all-important sea survival training at Marine Offshore Safety Training (MOST) in South Shields.

They will be attempting the Jules Verne Trophy, the ultimate round-the-world sailing record.

This ambitious endeavour will mark the first time in history an all-female crew has completed this legendary race against time.

Alistair Hackett, managing director of Ocean Safety Ltd said: "I am delighted to have the opportunity to work with the team at MOST in South Shields in the North East again, to provide the sea survival training for The Famous Project.

"Having had the chance to use the facilities at the college on four other occasions to provide training for the crews taking part in the Volvo Ocean Race we are returning simply because I believe the facilities the college offers are the best in the country.
