Singtel's Airtel stake leads to 23% Q1 profit decline

As Singtel, Singapore's leading telco operator, released its first-quarter earnings last week, the unsettling effects of owning a 24.5 percent stake in Airtel came to light.

The largest telecom provider in Southeast Asia, Singapore Telecommunications (Singtel), reported a 23.1% decline in profit for the three months that ended in June 2023. Net profit was SGD483 million (USD356 million), down from SGD628 million in the same period a year earlier.
