New GOP Speaker calls on Biden to split $100B funding for Ukraine, Israel

US House Speaker Mike Johnson has called on President Joe Biden to divide his supplemental budget request of USD 100 billion into separate allocations for both Ukraine and Israel.

This comes amid concerns among Republicans regarding support for a unified Ukraine package. Johnson, in an interview with Fox News’s Sean Hannity, stated that House Republicans are in consensus that these issues should be treated separately.
President Biden’s budget request encompasses USD 14 billion to aid Israel in its efforts against Hamas in Gaza, and an additional USD 61 billion for Ukraine’s defense against Russia. This budget also includes funding for US border security and support for Taiwan.
