Madhya Pradesh High Court Imposed Rs 25K Cost On Counsel For Non-Cooperation

The Madhya Pradesh High Court in the case Smt. Praveen Prakash v. National Insurance Co. Ltd. & Ors. observed and has imposed the cost for an amount of Rs 25,000/- on a counsel appearing for the respondents, including the insurance company, in a service matter.

The court in the case has taken the drastic step due to the continuous nonappearance of the counsel, despite previous intimation by the court that the case would be taken up on the afternoon of May 16, 2024.

The single-judge bench of Justice Vivek Agarwal in the case observed and has noted that the advocate appearing for the petitioners is an outstation counsel. Thus, advocate has been appearing on behalf of the petitioner consistently, even in the absence of the respondents. Adding to it, the bench of Jabalpur stated that the non-cooperation of the respondents’ counsel ought to be dealt with a cost of Rs 25,000.
