Karthik month: A sacred time for devotion and spiritual renewal

Falling between October and November, it is marked by heightened devotion, fasting, and spiritual practices, making it a period of deep reflection and connection with the divine. Rooted in ancient religious traditions, Karthik month is considered a time for purification, growth, and the accumulation of spiritual merit. In this article, we explore the religious and spiritual significance of Karthik Maas, and how it plays an essential role in the spiritual lives of devotees.

The Karthik month, based on the lunar calendar, is the eighth month of the year and corresponds to the sun’s entry into the zodiac sign of Libra. It is believed that during this period, the energies of the cosmos are especially favorable for spiritual practices, making it a highly auspicious time for devotion. This month is dedicated primarily to worshiping Lord Vishnu, Lord Shiva, and other deities like Goddess Lakshmi.

Karthik Maas is considered one of the holiest months because it is directly connected to significant mythological events, divine acts, and the worship of both Vishnu and Shiva. Devotees engage in various religious activities such as fasting, praying, performing rituals, and offering charity, with the belief that these actions will purify their minds and bodies, and bring them closer to the divine.

A key aspect of Karthik Maas is its devotion to Lord Vishnu, the preserver and protector of the universe. According to Hindu tradition, Vishnu is worshiped during this time with special reverence because this period is believed to be particularly auspicious for his devotees. Lord Vishnu's incarnations (especially Lord Krishna) are believed to have manifested during this month, making it an ideal time to reflect upon his teachings, particularly those found in the Bhagavad Gita.

During Karthik Maas, devotees offer prayers to Lord Vishnu through various rituals:
