|October 03, 2023
India has seen a remarkable improvement in mobile download speeds, moving up 72 places in a global ranking, thanks to the launch of 5G services, according to a report by Ookla, the creator of the speed test.
-
Since the introduction of 5G, India has witnessed a substantial increase in download speeds, with median download speeds surging from 13.87 Mbps in 2022 to an impressive 50.21 Mbps in 2023. This significant boost propelled India from 119th place in the Speedtest Global Index in September 2022 to 47th in August 2023.
The substantial improvement in India’s median download speeds has been particularly notable in the wake of 5G’s introduction. In October 2022, median download speeds varied from 10.37 Mbps in Northeast India to 21.49 Mbps in Jammu and Kashmir. By August 2023, most regions in the country experienced substantial enhancements, with all telecom circles registering speeds of more than 28 Mbps. Northeast India now boasts a median download speed of 28.02 Mbps, while Jammu and Kashmir has soared to a high of 150.95 Mbps.
