India speeds up Green Hydrogen initiative

India made a significant advancement in promoting green hydrogen and its derivatives on Saturday.

The Solar Energy Corporation of India (SECI) issued a Request for Selection (RfS) to identify producers for manufacturing green ammonia through cost-based competitive bidding, as announced by the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy. This initiative is part of the Strategic Interventions for Green Hydrogen Transition (SIGHT) Programme under the National Green Hydrogen Mission.
The bidding process will cover a total capacity of 5.39 lakh Metric Tonnes (MT) per annum of green ammonia, to be conducted through ebidding followed by e-reverse auction. The produced green ammonia will be supplied to fertilizer companies. This initiative falls under Mode 2A of the SIGHT Programme, focusing on incentivizing the production of green ammonia. SECI has been designated as the implementing agency for this scheme.
