Government initiates onion retail sale at Rs 25/kg

|November 06, 2023
In response to the rising cost of onions, the Center has launched a vigorous retail sale of onions at a discounted rate of Rs 25 per kilogramme.

The Ministry of Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution said in a news release that this action is a reaction to the delay in the arrival of the kharif crop, which has led to a spike in onion prices. With almost 5.06 lakh tonnes of onions already purchased, the government has increased buffer procurement and established a Minimum Export Price (MEP) of USD 800 per metric tonne.
