Gold demand declined 15% in Q1 amid high prices: WGC

Safe-haven gold's demand, in volume terms, has dropped in Indian markets in the January-March quarter of 2025, due to an unprecedented rise in its prices.
According to the World Gold Council, India's gold demand in the first quarter of 2025 stood at 118.1 tonnes, a total 15 per cent drop from 139 tonnes in the same period of last calendar year.
But notably, this decline in sales volume was offset by a 22 per cent surge (in rupee terms) in the overall value of demand, propelled by soaring global gold prices, which have risen 25 per cent since January 2025.

Cops bust drug syndicate, two held with drugs worth 4 crores
The Inter-State Cell of the Delhi Police's Crime Branch has successfully dismantled a significant drug syndicate based in Bareilly, Uttar Pradesh, arresting two individuals and seizing narcotics with an estimated market value of four crore rupees, along with a large quantity of gold and silver, said the police. According to the police, the operation began on September 15th, when, based on specific intelligence, a team apprehended Aman Khan, a 22-year-old resident of Bareilly, at the Anand Vihar Bus Terminal in Delhi. A search of his person resulted in the recovery of 214.5 grams of high-quality smack. A case was registered under Section 21 of the NDPS Act at the Police Station Crime Branch.
