Declining Sex Ratio: Health Dept Forms 14-Member Panel To Oversee MTP Regulations

The sex ratio at birth in Haryana, which peaked at 923 in 2019, has fallen to 910 in 2024, hitting its lowest point in eight years, adding to the woes of the Health Department.

What is evident from the official statistics is that the sex ratio at birth in India stands at around 933 females for every 1,000 males till January 2025, which is a matter of serious concern and forced the state government as well as the health department to come up with ways to improve the sex ratio.

In wake of the prevailing scenario, a meeting was held under the chairmanship of the Additional Chief Secretary (ACS) and attended by the Director of Women and Child Development, Department, Dr Manish Bansal; Director General Health Services (DGHS), Dr. Kuldeep Singh; DGHS (P), Dr. Simmi Verma; DHS (FW/PNDT), Dr Virender Yadav; Director (MCH), NHM; Civil Surgeon, Panchkula; and Officers/Officials of PNDT and MTP Cell.

Orders have been issued to form a 14-member committee, including MD, NHM, Haryana, Director General Health Services (HOD), Director General Health Services (P), DG, AYUSH, Director, WCD, State Drug Controller, Director, Dr. Virender Yadav (Convener), DD (MH) O/o NHM, Haryana, CMO, Panchkula, MO, MTP Act, SNO, PNDT, Law Officer, and PNDT, which will work on the same.

Besides, a month-wise sex ratio of each CHC is to be compiled and a report submitted will be ACS, Health.
