Cases of animal cruelty rise 33% across the county

NEW figures released by the RSPCA show a 33% annual increase in cruelty reports to the charity during the summer period across Surrey.

It is the same increase as was seen across England and Wales last year.

The animal welfare charity released the startling new statistics on Tuesday, July 1 as part of its Summer Cruelty Campaign - when animal cruelty reports peak.

In June, July and August last year across England and Wales the RSPCA took 34,401 cruelty calls to their emergency linecompared to 25,887 the year before.

In Surrey, the number of cruelty reports over the summer months increased from 298 (2023) to 398 last year - an annual increase of 33%.
