Spinal injury report highlights failings in current provision
Sunderland Echo
|November 25, 2025
An All-Party Parliamentary Group has released a report calling for a comprehensive national strategy to improve care and outcomes for individuals with spinal cord injuries.
-
The report highlights significant gaps in current provision, including delays in specialist rehabilitation, inconsistent access to services, and inadequate long-term support. These shortcomings, according to the report, lead to poorer health outcomes and increased costs for the NHS and social care systems.
Central to the report is the recommendation for a coordinated approach involving government, healthcare providers, and charities to ensure timely admission to specialist spinal centres. Evidence presented shows that early specialist intervention reduces complications, improves recovery, and lowers overall expenditure.
