Protesters clash over asylum seeker hotels

DEMONSTRATORS in Newcastle angry about the use of hotels to house people seeking asylum took to the streets in the city centre yesterday afternoon.

They were met by a counter-protest called by groups including Stand up to Racism and Newcastle Unites.

A significant Northumbria Police presence helped to keep the rival protests apart, though it is understood four people were arrested.
