PLANNED improvements to an iconic North East pier lighthouse, aimed at ensuring “safe access” for volunteers and the public participating in guided tours, have been approved.

The Planning and Highways Committee of Sunderland City Council gave their consent to a council application for the Grade II-listed Roker Pier structure at a meeting this week.
