MUSIC star Huey Morgan's life has been one hell of a ride - from petty crime to rock'n'roll fame via the US Marines.

- BY MARK JEFFERIES

On the way to becoming the frontman of Fun Lovin' Criminals, he was sucked into a world of drugs, guns and run-ins with the mafia.

The New York-born star and Radio 6 Music DJ writes about this and much more in a new memoir.

Huey and his band, who had hits such as Scooby Snacks, supported U2 on the US leg of their 1997 PopMart tour and partied with the Irish rockers on their private jet.

He said: "This wasn't some small private jet, but was a big old girl they named Air Lemon, with first-class seats, a few spacious bedrooms, a massive galley and a private area for the U2 guys.

"I'd never seen this type of thing up close and personal before. It was intoxicating to be around."

Huey, now 57, asked U2's amused Bono if could light a joint as the jet started to taxi. He said: "I stood up and grabbed seat-backs on either side of me. Joint firmly lit in my mouth. I was holding on a lot harder than was actually necessary.

"Edge and Bono were smiling at me like I was... well, a f***ing psycho.

"Bono said, 'You seem to be enjoying the plane ride, my boy. You guys are chilling like the Caesars of Rome could only have dreamed of.
