Don't panic, have faith and invest for long term
We all look for certainty in anxious, uncertain times...
Against the backdrop of recent high inflation and market turmoil we have wars, AI technology disruption, the cost of living crisis, and economic hardship. It's natural to wonder how these events will affect long-term investments. These challenges warrant our attention and deep concern but are no reason to panic about markets when you're investing long-term.
Look back at 2000. There was a significant shift in UK constitutional politics with devolution, the Scottish Parliament and Welsh Assembly were established in 1999.
The US's Dow Jones Industrial Average had passed 11,000 in 1999 and in 2000, the tech-heavy NASDAQ peaked above 5,000 before correcting in the next two years.
Tony Blair had been prime minister for three years, the internet was in its infancy, and everyone was worried about the Russian financial crisis.
