Quadruple killer's privileges restored including mobile

BRITAIN'S longest serving prisoner has had his mobile phone and other privileges returned after being moved to another jail.

Robert Maudsley, 72, a quadruple killer dubbed Hannibal the Cannibal, has spent nearly 47 years in solitary confinement. For most of that time he spent 23 hours a day in a glass cell 18 feet long and 15 feet wide - which he described as “being buried alive in a coffin”.

But guards took away his privileges, including TV, PlayStation, books and hi-fi after claims he was abusive to staff.

Maudsley went on hunger strike in protest at top-security Wakefield jail, West Yorks - dubbed Monster Mansion for its notorious inmates - in March.
