Swelter set to have her day in the sun in 1000 Guineas thriller

SWELTER (3.40) can turn up the heat in the Irish 1000 Guineas.

It's the final day of a magic meeting at the Curragh and, as ever, Aidan O'Brien holds the aces in the Group 1s.

The trainer has the Guineas favourite in the shape of Lake Victoria but she lost her unbeaten record at Newmarket and didn't look on good terms with herself in a first race since the Breeders Cup.

Dermot Weld has won this classic six times and has another serious chance with Swelter.

She was a smooth winner of the trial two months ago and, straight away, the master handler said she was heading directly to this race.

Weld has been as good as his word and, with the brilliant Chris Hayes on board, the filly is worthy of a crack at the jolly.
