Mcllroy craves East Lothian return
RORY McILROY has thrown his weight behind The Open returning to Muirfield in two years’ time - despite suffering the “lowest point" of his pro career on the links.
The home of the Honourable Company of Edinburgh Golfers last hosted the Major in 2013 when he missed the cut.
It was removed from the rota three years later after the club voted against allowing female members, then reinstated after a second vote.
The Women's British Open was staged at Muirfield in 2022 and further upgrading of the infrastructure has made the East Lothian track a contender for the men in 2028.
Mcllroy said: “They obviously rectified the issues they had. It's a wonderful golf course.
“It’s one of the best courses on the rota and in the UK.
“But, as well, it has to commercially make sense.
