Kids' TV shows for the ages

- BY DAN VEVERS

BEEB bosses have confirmed popular children's show Balamory is to be brought back next year.

Filmed in Glasgow and Mull, it will still have some of the original cast and characters with new additions. Made from 2002 to 2005, it became a staple of TV entertainment for children who followed the stories of Miss Hollie, PC Plum and Penny Pocket.

Here are 10 classic kids TV shows we miss.

BANANA SPLITS (1970)

THE US show featured a fictional rock band of animal characters - Fledge, Bingo, Drooper and Snorky - who were dressed in red helmets and sometimes scooted around in buggies.

Loud, colourful, fast paced and packed with gags, only two series were made.

Fun fact: The catchy theme tune, The Tra La La Song (One Banana, Two Banana) was released in 1979 by punk band The Dickies and hit No7 in the UK.

GRANGE HILL (1978)

THE drama about life in a gritty London school had a good run, lasting until 2008, with groundbreaking stories about racism, drugs, Aids and homosexuality.

Characters, including Tucker and Zammo, became household names and we all recall the theme tune and the flying sausage.
