MARTIN STILL RADIOACTIVE FOR SUPPORT
Sunday Mail
|October 05, 2025
I KNEW it was a serious mistake as soon as I read Russell Martin's quote ahead of Thursday's 2-1 defeat against Sturm Graz.
-
Rangers' head coach was reflecting on last Sunday's belated, and fortuitous, league win over Livingston and said: "That walk at Loch Lomond ... maybe that wasn't such a bad idea after all."
Talk about delusional.
Of all the things not to mention, that was top of the list and guaranteed to come back and bite him on the bum.
Which it duly did in Austria.
The silly soundbite also came after I thought Martin had learned his lesson when it came to being not half as clever as he thinks he is in a press conference situation.
There was a revealing moment during Martin's television interview following the victory at Livingston.
The interviewer asked if there was a sense of relief created by the last-gasp goal from Max Aarons that prevented pandemonium from breaking out all around him.
Martin took a breath, subconsciously weighed up all of his options over the nature of his reply, and delivered a one-word answer.
"Yes," he said after exhaling loudly.
