IT'S DAGGERS DRAWN FOR LISBON DUO

THE Portuguese title race will go right down to the wire after Benfica and Sporting played out a 1-1 draw last night in the biggest Lisbon derby for decades.

IT'S DAGGERS DRAWN FOR LISBON DUO

The city rivals were level on points heading into the penultimate game at the Stadium of Light.

And with the title being decided by head-to-head instead of goal difference they both could have sealed the deal with a win.

Champions Sporting looked set to claim the crown at the home of their bitter rivals when Francisco Trincao fired them into an early lead.

But Benfica got the goal their pressure deserved when Kerem Akturkoglu scored midway through the second half.

The Eagles pushed hard for a winner but couldn't break through and it’s now advantage Sporting going into the final game.

With the champions winning the earlier derby 1-0 they have the better head-to-head record so a win at home to Vitoria Guimaraes will get them over the line.

Sporting will be without defender Ricardo Esgaio for that game though after he saw red in stoppage time in a fiery finale.
