The former England star has been a key target for Ibrox sporting director Kevin Thelwell, who started at Rangers earlier this month following his April appointment.

The Midlands club are expected to give Coady the green light to move north to help slash their wage bill in the Championship.

The former Wolves defender is on a decent salary and in the final year of his deal.

Rangers will not be able to offer the same wage but are willing to put a long-term deal in place to land him.

New Ibrox manager Russell Martin has already brought in full-back Max Aarons from Norwich on loan, with Coady also likely to be part of his new-look defence.
