UK-US trade deal to avoid Trump tariffs

DONALD TRUMP will not levy tariff on the UK despite having the EU in his sights, his senior adviser said last night.

Bryan Lanza confirmed the US President would instead seek a trade deal with Britain, five years after it left the European bloc.

Mr Trump carried out his threat to impose 25% tariffs on Canadian and Mexican imports yesterday, and has threatened similar sanctions across the Atlantic.

On Friday he confirmed he would "abso-lutely" begin a trade war with Brussels, adding: "The European Union has treated us so terribly."

Speculation has since been mounting as to whether the tax would apply to UK exporters.

Reports last week suggested Sir Keir Starmer's government was bracing itself, and ministers were banking on a disparity between US and UK trade to exempt Britain.
