Tough migration policy 'is working'

LEGAL migration hit "grossly unsustainable levels" but Britain is now at the "forefront" of tackling the "global challenge", Home Secretary James Cleverly has declared.

Net migration rocketed to an eyewatering 672,000 in the 12 months to June 2023.

But Mr Cleverly says that tough measures to crack down on numbers are already having an impact - pointing to a 24 per cent decline in key categories of visa applications in the first three months of this year.

The push to curb the number of people entering the UK legally comes as the Government scrambles to get flights taking illegal migrants to Rwanda off the ground "within nine to 11 weeks".
