Summerville so close to lifting gloom for Julen
Sunday Express
|November 10, 2024
WEST HAM winger Crysencio Summerville held up his hands in despair while Julen Lopetegui kept his firmly in his pockets.
Both men knew a golden late chance to ease the pressure and lift the gloom over West Ham had gone begging.
Clean through from Lucas Paqueta's raking pass, £25million signing Summerville seemed to have struck the crucial winner...only for it to rebound off the inside of the post.
And with that so-near-yet-so-far moment, all the heat was suddenly back on the shoulders of Spanish coach Lopetegui (right). He was soon booked to compound his pain.
Afterwards he promised West Ham will get things right in the future.
His side were booed off at the end and Lopetegui said: "That's normal.
They're not happy with our 12 points and we aren't either.
"We must improve, we must grow up as a team - and show more personality. I'm sure we are going to finish higher." A point was certainly better for Toffees counterpart Sean Dyche, who arrived here having overseen the club's worst start to a season since 2017.
