One in 4 jailed trans women guilty of rape

ALMOST a quarter of the transgender women held in men’s jails because they are legally male were locked up after being convicted of rape.

Latest statistics from the Ministry of Justice revealed there were 245 in the nation’s prisons — with the majority locked up for committing sexual crimes.

These inmates were born male and now identify as women but do not have a Gender Recognition Certificate.

The MoJ figures show 151 were held for sex offences, of which 60 had been convicted of rape, 22 for sexual assault and 15 for possessing explicit images of children.

Another seven were being held for indecent assault and 16 for the offence of inciting a child to engage in sexual activity.
