Labour won't win again aiter betraying farmers

Baroness Mallalieu Mallalieu said the Government had "sacrificed goodwill" with voters in rural communities who backed Sir Keir Starmer in July's election having serious regrets.

And she warned it is not possible for Labour to win another term without winning rural constituencies "which is why we were out of office for 14 years".

Baroness Mallalieu, who is president of the Countryside Alliance, said: "No government can afford to lose goodwill so dramatically, and quite so quickly." She urged minsters to reconsider their decision to impose a 20 per cent inheritance tax on farms worth more than £1million from 2026.

It was reported that the Department for Environment, Food & Rural Affairs was only informed of the decision the night before Chancellor Rachel Reeves's Budget.
