"I'd just returned to work after a long break bringing up four children. I loved my life, but was feeling exhausted, teary and down for no obvious reason. My GP diagnosed depression and prescribed antidepressants. This, it turned out, was a misdiagnosis.

"I went to loads of different doctors who thought I could be suffering with everything from early onset dementia, depression and anxiety to irregular heart palpitations, psoriasis and arthritis.
I eventually went to see my doctor father and burst into tears, saying, 'I think I'm going mad. I don't know what's wrong with me.'
