On the eve of the ITV show’s 10th anniversary tomorrow, he has reflected on some of his treasured showbiz scoops, such as meeting icons Barbra, Tony Bennett and Celine Dion.
“These are extraordinary characters that I suppose we all have in common, the people who have invariably inspired us to go to the movies, or they’ve been the soundtrack to our lives,” Richard said.
“I remember when I interviewed Tony Bennett for the first time in his apartment in New York. Genuinely, my dad thought I’d won the World Cup.
“It was quite extraordinary being in Tony’s apartment, and there was a picture of him with the Rat Pack on the piano.
“And looking out at the view at Central Park, I just thought, ‘Well, this is an incredible moment – this is spectacular’.”
