LAWBREAKERS may be banned from pubs, concerts and sports matches under new sentencing plans.

- By Michael Knowles

Justice Secretary Shabana Mahmood is introducing the tougher community sentences to counter claims that Labour is soft on crime.

Judges will be able to impose measures such as driving limits, travel bans and restriction zones.

They will also have the power to ban criminals from attending specific venues, such as pubs, or events.

Convicted criminals released early from prison could also be hit with these sorts of stipulations.

Anyone caught flouting the bans may be jailed or given another punishment, the Ministry of Justice said, noting that more criminals will also face mandatory drug testing.
