JEAN Nield, a member of Bramall Park GC and previously Chorlton GC is a true legend of club and county golf and she celebrated her 90th birthday in style at Bramall Park GC and with friends in Chorlton at her great friend Terri Tivenan’s house.

Hole-in-one expert Jean’s milestone

Christine Kelly, a longtime friend of Jean and a member at Bramhall GC outlined Jean's great career in golf: “Jean had 11 holes in one and it is believed to be a club, county and potential national record for a lady club golfer at the time of her last hole in one.

“She was a member at Bramall Park from 1975 to present day except for period 1978 to 1990 when moved with husband’s career to Chorlton-cum-Hardy and re-joined Bramall Park again from 1993 to 2015.

“Jean began her golf in the year of 1975. Her husband Brian played golf and a good friend from Tennis Pauline Thorp had taken up golf and recommended Jean to take up golf.

“Jean’s highlights included winning the Nahum Cup at Hopwood (Manchester) GC in 1991, Manchester and District Cup in 1978 at Ashton Under Lyne GC, in 1976

“At Bramall Park Jean won The Chadwick Shield, Championship Cup, Singles Knockout and Presidents Day and also winning the Seddon trophy at Tytherington GC. Jean also played for the Cheshire Seniors and was Cheshire Senior Captain

“Jean didn’t have many golf lessons but does remember the Professional at Ringway Golf Club Nick Ryan giving her some good advice.

“Jean received a letter from The Editor, Royal and Ancient Golfers Handbook , London acknowledging her 11 holes in one and her husband’s five holes in one ( in competitions but not at Bramall Park) making a combined husband and wife team of 16 holes in one which was recorded on page 547 in the Golfer Handbook in 2002.
