PM Modi in Malaysia: India, Malaysia renew pledges to boost trade, collaboration

India and Malaysia have decided to strengthen cooperation in the fields of counter-terrorism, intelligence sharing & maritime security, following bilateral talks held between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his Malaysian counterpart Anwar Ibrahim. On the second day of PM Modi's official visit to Malaysia, the two countries inked a number of agreements

Earlier in the morning, Mr. Modi received a ceremonial welcome and Guard of Honour at the Perdana Putra building in Malaysia. The Malaysian PM, following talks with Mr. Modi, said that India and Malaysia will continue to expand collaboration in trade, investment, connectivity and defence.

Mr. Modi arrived in Kuala Lumpur on Saturday (February 7, 2026) to a grand red-carpet reception, with Ibrahim receiving him at the airport, signalling a new momentum in the bilateral relations.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday (February 8, 2026) met Indian National Army (Azad Hind Fauj) veteran Jeyaraj Raja Rao in Kuala Lumpur and conveyed the gratitude of all Indians for INA's extraordinary courage, legacy, and sacrifice.

"We remain forever indebted to Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose, the brave women and men of the INA, whose valour helped shape India's destiny," PM Modi said in a post on social media after the meeting. Mr. Modi said it was "very special" to meet INA veteran Mr. Rao.

"His life is marked by immense courage and sacrifice. Listening to his experiences was very inspiring," he said.

India and Malaysia pledged Sunday to deepen their semiconductor partnership as the Indian Ocean neighbours ramp up trade and security links during a visit by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

"Along with Al and digital technologies, we will advance our partnership in semiconductors, health, and food security," Mr. Modi said.
