Winds blow raft race off course but fundraisers rise to challenge

SWANSEA Bay’s annual Mumbles Raft Race was cancelled due to strong winds - but thousands of people still enjoyed the fundraising event.

Around £20,000 was raised for the community's RNLI lifeboat station on Saturday as locals enjoyed a fancy dress competition and an egg and flour fight on the slipway.

The event usually sees teams from across South Wales race across the bay in novelty rafts, but Mumbles lifeboat crew member Adam Gilbert told us the wind strength was “a little too high”, adding: “Water safety is at the heart of everything we do and as a charity we can't take any risks.
