Jones the shootout hero as Goytre deliver a surprise success
South Wales Evening Post
|September 22, 2025
Jones was his side’s hero as he made back-to-back saves in a tense penalty shootout to earn his side a ticket into the next round of the JD Welsh Cup
-
The Ardal South West side welcomed Ammanford and played out a 1-1 draw over 90 minutes. Keane Watts scored on the stroke of time to throw the home side a lifeline.
The first 12 spot-kicks hit the back of the net to make it 6-6 before Jones saved from opposite number Josh Hutchings.
That gave Oli Bradley the chance to win the game for Goytre, but Hutchings made up for his miss moments earlier.
Jones then saved from Seth Woodhouse to leave Jaiden Rees with the responsibility of taking the 16th penalty. The teenager kept his cool, burying the ball in the back of the net to secure victory 7-6.
