Jones denied victory after red flag drama

AMMANFORD racer Lewis Jones bounced back from a mixed weekend at Brands Hatch to deliver a fine display at Thruxton.

Jones raced as a wildcard entry in the British Supersport Championship at Brands Hatch, but suffered a crash on his Triumph machine on the opening day.

The young Welsh racer was back on the circuit for the second day, only to suffer engine failure as he fought for a good place in qualifying.

But Jones had more success at Thruxton, the track acknowledged to be the fastest in the country.

In the Friday free practice sessions Jones set a best lap time of 1.20.956.

First qualifying saw him in 18th overall, which made him fourth in the Supersport Cup Championship.

‘As the day progressed to combined qualifying, the Welsh team were classified 34th in the field, but still held on to fourth in the Supersport Cup rankings.

In the Sprint race, the pace was lively, but Jones held onto his positions set in qualifying, finishing 34th and fourth in the Supersport Cup.
