Hook suggests WRU compromise

FORMER Wales international James Hook has proposed a compromise to the Welsh Rugby Union's 'optimal solution' of cutting down to two teams.

The WRU are currently consulting with stakeholders over the best way forward for Welsh rugby, with the governing body believing reducing the number of professional men’s teams from four to two is the strongest model. That has been met with pushback, with the Dragons and the Welsh Rugby Players' Association both releasing statements against a two-club model.

Now Hook, who works as a skills coach for the Ospreys, has questioned whether the WRU's initial proposals were too dramatic - having spoken to a former Scotland international to gauge how two clubs actually works.

“Obviously four isn’t working at the moment,” said Hook on Scrum V’s The Warm Up. “I remember during the Six Nations, I was with Johnnie Beattie - the Scottish international.
