SWANSEA City boss Alan Sheehan is hopeful of adding to his squad before Saturday's opening-day Championship clash with Middlesbrough.

HAMMERS ACE ON SHEEHAN'S RADAR AHEAD OF BORO OPENER

Sheehan admits his current lack of defensive options is becoming a concern ahead of the new campaign.

With captain Ben Cabango and new signing Ricardo Santos both on the treatment table, Cameron Burgess is currently the only recognised senior centre-back option at Sheehan's disposal.

The need for further depth has subsequently become a more pressing priority for this week, although Sheehan says the club are making progress with potential further additions.

And it is understood the club are keen on taking West Ham United youngster Kaelan Casey on loan.

The 20-year-old is a highly-rated prospect in East London, having made his Premier League debut in May 2024.

He was part of several Premier League matchday squads last season, even making a late appearance off the bench against Bournemouth, and is currently with the rest of the squad for the tour of the United States.

Casey looks set to be shipped out on loan for the upcoming campaign, with Swansea seriously exploring the possibility of trying to bring him to South Wales.

Sheehan said after Saturday's preseason friendly defeat to Lorient: "I think there are areas we would like to strengthen.

"I think we've got some good competition for places.

"I think the centre-back situation is obviously unfortunate. In terms of depth that is an area we would like to do."

Asked if there were likely to be further arrivals before the trip to Tees-side he added: "All going well, yeah.

"We're in talks with players. But we're not just going to sign anyone.

"They've got to be the right fit for the football club in order to make us better.
