Carer serves up great idea for family mealtime
South Wales Evening Post
|November 20, 2025
A BIGHEARTED carer from Neath has won a national award for his "Family Sunday Dinners" project bringing people with disabilities closer to their families.
Rob Hayward's idea has seen families share a meal together - in some cases for the first time ever transforming how loved ones connect and spend time together.
The M&D Care service manager picked up a bronze award at the Wales Care Awards for his innovative approach, praised as a game changer in social care.
M&D Care provides residential, supported living and domiciliary services to adults in Neath, Port Talbot, Swansea, Ceredigion and Carmarthenshire.
Colleagues said Rob's Family Sunday Dinners concept has completely transformed the way families engage with their loved ones.
Historically, due to perceived risks and behaviours which can challenge, many people across services in Wales have been unable to share mealtimes with their families in a relaxed and inclusive environment.
